SUMMARY:Joey Norwood - The Age of the BarMoth Has Ended!
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition round includes works provided by Joey Norwood which will be on view in the Second Floor Connector Gallery from March 4 – May 30\, 2026.  Lowe Mill A&E invites patrons and art lovers to join us for Open Studio Night\, a building-wide experience when our over 150 studios will be open to the public.  The evening also includes receptions for all seven of our gallery spaces. This series gives the public a chance to meet and interact with visiting artists and discuss their work as it is on display and available for purchase. Come out\, enjoy a pleasant evening\, and maybe you’ll find that special piece of art that speaks to you!  The Open Studio Night reception is Saturday\, May 30 from 5-7 pm. \n  \nAbout the exhibit: \n“I have learned that to be with those I like is enough.” \n– Walt Whitman \n“The Age of the BarMoth Has Ended!” is a personal shrine to the popular Five Points establishment\, 1892 East Restaurant & Tavern\, which closed its doors in May of 2025\, after over fifteen years of indulging the appetites of its many patrons and matrons. Its bar was a wonderful place to have a casual conversation with strangers or to develop lifelong friendships\, all while quaffing local brews or sipping magical elixirs concocted by their many talented mixologists. \nA centerpiece of this installation is the collection of “bar napkin art” loaned by Ben (Going)\, who\, for several years\, was the loquacious Wednesday night bartender. \nThese paper napkins were stained almost exclusively from high gravity\, dark beers (such as Unobtainium\, a bourbon barrel-aged Old Ale\, locally brewed by Straight To Ale) or stouts\, then were subsequently embellished with ink pen\, creating surreal imagery. \nOther objects d’art of this installation are made from former 1892 East advertising signage. Some of these were designed by another bartender\, Allen (Meeks)\, whose resounding laughter was often heard during his tenure there. \nThis installation is dedicated to the many waiters and waitresses\, chefs and kitchen staff\, and hosts and hostesses who knew the BarMoth by name; and especially to the bartenders (and *mixologists!) and closers who most inspired the artist with their openness and fast friendships (and\, of course\, marvelous *concoctions!): Allen\, Anna\, Ben\, *Christina\, **Chuck\, Dylan\, Jordan\, Juna\, *Kimbo\, *Mary\, *Mike\, Miriam\, and *Timothy. \nThe BarMoth’s C8H11NO2 (3\,4-Dihydroxyphenethylamine) receptors are forever grateful! \n  \nAbout the artist: \nJoey Norwood is an Alabama native whose art tends to focus on installations featuring abstract concepts. He has exhibited in Lowe Mill since its conversion into an artist’s haven over twenty years ago. The current installation is the fourth in a biennial winter/spring series\, which includes “Ha-i-ku-ba-ti-o-n (in the yurt)” (2024)\, “Hyperfactual” (2022)\, and “Hind-Sight is Twenty-Twenty” (2020)\, but harkens back to another from nearly thirteen years ago: “Quinceañera” – a celebration of fifteen years of marriage to his extraordinary and lovely wife\, Beth. Celebrating another fifteen year span of time\, “The Age of the BarMoth Has Ended!” commemorates the rise and fall of a local “Restaurant & Tavern” which enriched the artist’s life with delicious food\, large quantities of spirited libations\, and extra\, heaping helpings of camaraderie with the bartenders\, waitstaff\, kitchen staff\, and regulars at the bar of 1892 East. \n\n\n  \n

Come out\, enjoy a pleasant evening\, and maybe you’ll find that special piece of art that speaks to you!  The Open Studio Night reception is Saturday\, May 30 from 5-7 pm. \nAbout the exhibit: \nEpilogue is a contemplative painting exhibition by artist Timothy M. Joe that examines the final state of manmade structures in landscapes and still-life subjects rendered obsolete by time\, neglect\, or quiet abandonment. The exhibition positions each work as a visual afterword—an ending that is not dramatic\, but subdued\, and reflective. Through engaging composition\, color palette\, and atmospheric techniques\, Timothy invites viewers to encounter places and objects that persist beyond their usefulness\, existing only as remnants of memory. \nBy focusing on forgotten landscapes and still life\, Epilogue addresses broader themes of loss and quiet endurance. The exhibition offers a reflective space where viewers can confront the emotional resonance of abandonment\, and the understated beauty found in what lingers after relevance has passed. \n  \nFrom the artist: \nMy favorite subjects are rural structures in landscapes and nature journaling. I love learning the history of my subject and gain the appreciation that helps me create meaningful art. Creating a beautiful painting is nice\, but painting the same scene with an understanding of the history is what I am after. I believe the backstory of my subject is just as important as the color I choose to paint. My art style concentrates on the light effect on my subject matter and contrast between light and shadow. \n  \n

Come out\, enjoy a pleasant evening\, and maybe you’ll find that special piece of art that speaks to you!  The Open Studio Night reception is Saturday\, May 30 from 5-7 pm. \n  \nAbout the exhibit: \nThis exhibition explores the enduring relationship between humans and animals as companions\, spirit guides\, and mythic symbols woven into our shared history. From the earliest cave paintings to contemporary cultural icons\, animals have served as mirrors for human emotion\, survival\, and belief. They appear in our myths and spiritual practices as protectors\, messengers\, and teachers\, and in our daily lives as beloved companions—bridging the sacred and the familiar. \nRooted in anthropology and symbolism\, this body of work examines how humans have continually turned to animals to express identity and belonging. Animals become vessels for storytelling and meaning\, carrying cultural memory across generations. Whether represented as mythological beings\, totems\, or domestic presences\, they reflect humanity’s need to understand itself through the natural world and to find connection beyond the human realm. \nAbout the artist: \nBorn and raised in Huntsville\, Alabama\, Cindy’s artistic odyssey began to take shape while she pursued her studies in art at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Simultaneously\, she delved into the demanding world of graphic design\, embracing the challenges of a full-time job while nurturing her creative spirit through personal artistic exploration outside the realms of work and academia.\n\nIn a pivotal twist\, Cindy’s path led her to the majestic landscapes of Boulder\, Colorado\, where she embarked on a journey into the realms of archaeology and anthropology. Over the course of a decade\, she immersed herself in the rich cultural tapestry of the region\, earning a degree from the University of Colorado. This chapter in her life not only enriched her understanding of history but also profoundly influenced her artistic expression.\n\nIn 2007\, a new adventure awaited Cindy as she accepted the role of Program Manager for the Graphic Contract at NASA Headquarters in Washington\, D.C. Here\, Cindy’s artistry continued to evolve amid the intersection of technology\, science\, and creative expression\, further enriching her unique perspective.\n\nHowever\, the call of her roots eventually drew her back to Huntsville in 2015. It was here that she fulfilled a long-held dream\, establishing her own art studio within the Lowe Mill Arts and Entertainment complex. This move marked a significant turning point\, allowing her to fully embrace her identity as a studio artist. Cindy returned to her artistic roots. She rekindled her passion for painting and mixed media\, drawing inspiration from her anthropological studies and her intimate connection with the Colorado mountains. Her artwork\, born from this introspective period\, serves as a reflection of her diverse influences.\n

Come out\, enjoy a pleasant evening\, and maybe you’ll find that special piece of art that speaks to you!  The Open Studio Night reception is Saturday\, May 30 from 5-7 pm. \n  \nAbout the exhibit: \n“ROADKILL CIRCUS” is a motley crew of characters and creatures.  This series of paintings started in 2025.  Inspired by everything from graffiti\, Francis Bacon\, heavy metal\, Jean-Michel Basquiat\, horror movies\, cave drawings\, cartoons\, tribal art\, comic books\, album covers\, etc.  I try to use anything around me from southern culture to science fiction.  I often work in a space that has been described as both scary and silly. \n  \nAbout the artist:   \nMy name is Brad Posey.  I was born in Huntsville\, Alabama in 1972.  I am not formally educated as an artist but have always been drawn to music\, poetry and art.  I host a local radio show called The Invisible City on 89.3 WLRH and I work at UAH in the Facilities and Maintenance Department.  Art is a relaxing and soothing practice.  It’s not about having a goal or achieving a certain outcome but more of a process and a way to lose yourself in the experience. \n  \n

Come out\, enjoy a pleasant evening\, and maybe you’ll find that special piece of art that speaks to you!  The Open Studio Night reception is Saturday\, May 30 from 5-7 pm. \n  \nAbout the exhibit: \nThis collection of work explores the wrestling that comes with the journey of reconciliation of self. Guided by my love for Jesus\, I created this work with the intent to reflect biblical compassion and empathy and to invite others into the same freedom and healing He has given me-with the hope it does the same for viewers. These pieces are inspired by songs that marked specific seasons of my life\, functioning as anchors for memory\, grief\, and endurance. I used various iconography\, texture\, and movement of color to create tangible expressions of both deep lament over the past and gritty faith moving toward sanctification. Mixed media allows for accumulation\, interruption\, and revision\, which mirrors the emotional landscape of the work. Each piece is also a reflection of my own journey-honest\, sometimes messy\, but always rooted in redemption from the Lord. My hope is that as you experience this space\, you feel seen\, known\, and encouraged-no matter what you have walked through. \n  \nAbout the artist: \nMaddie Wideman is a faith-based mixed media artist based in Atlanta\, GA. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Samford University\, where she discovered her love for mixed media and watercolor and developed a personal style that reflects both whimsy and depth.  \nShe has won multiple juried art shows\, has shown in local galleries\, and has participated in exhibitions in both Georgia and Alabama. She has taught watercolor through Samford’s Academy of the Arts and Peachtree Art Center in Georgia and now creates watercolor guest portraits for wedding events. She is currently developing ideas for an upcoming solo exhibition at the Gallery at Johnson Ferry in 2027. \n  \n

SUMMARY:The Art of Dr. Seuss Collection
DESCRIPTION:Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment shares The Art of Dr. Seuss Collection featuring known and unknown works from the life of Theodor Seuss Geisel. Artworks will be on display and available for acquisition.  \nFor over 60 years\, Dr. Seuss’s illustrations have brought a visual realization to his fantastic and imaginary worlds. His artistic talent went far beyond the printed page and yet\, to this day\, his Secret Art Collection is virtually unknown to the general public. Throughout his lifetime\, Theodor Seuss Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss) created paintings and sculpture\, which he secreted away at the Dr. Seuss Estate.  \n  \nAnn Jackson Gallery will share a compelling selection of artworks from The Art of Dr. Seuss Collection at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment\, 2211 Seminole Drive SW\, Huntsville\, AL\, Thursday\, Feb. 12 – Saturday\, Feb. 14. Visitors may explore and acquire works from Dr. Seuss’s best-known children’s books\, as well as The Secret Art of Dr. Seuss\, a mindexpanding collection based on decades of artwork\, which Dr. Seuss created at night for his own personal pleasure. Perhaps the wackiest and most wonderful elements of the collection are Dr. Seuss’s three-dimensional “Unorthodox Taxidermy” sculptures with names such as Carbonic Walrus\, Two-Horned Drouberhannis\, and Goo-Goo-Eyed Tasmanian Wolghast\, to name a few.  \nAdditionally\, Ted’s cat was never far from his artist thoughts. He drew himself as The Cat Behind the Hat\, his cat was the protagonist in several of his Secret Art paintings and\, as a fun aside\, many of his early advertisements and cartoons had a “cat bystander” witnessing all the action. They hinted at his adventures across the world\, his reclusive sensibility despite his fame\, and his penchant for the childlike fantasy and humor\, which infused nearly every facet of his life.  \nDespite the unprecedented demand during his lifetime\, no limited-edition artworks were ever conceived\, authorized\, or created until this historic project began in 1997\, six years after Geisel’s death. That year\, this exclusive project put into motion a series of artworks and exhibitions\, which firmly established him as one of the most iconic artistic talents of the 20th century.  \nEach of these Estate-Authorized limited editions has been adapted and reproduced from Theodor Seuss Geisel’s original drawings\, paintings\, or sculptures. Come out\, enjoy a pleasant evening\, and maybe you’ll find that special piece of art that speaks to you!  The Open Studio Night reception is Saturday\, February 28 from 5-7 pm. \n  \nAbout the exhibit: \nDepression Incarnate is an exploration of pain\, grief\, and heartbreak — a reflection of how I process complex emotions through art. For me\, painting is not just creation; it’s communication. Art allows me to express feelings that are too heavy or complicated to put into words\, transforming sorrow into something visual\, tangible\, and healing.  \nThe majority of my work consists of surrealist self-portraits that embody emotional states rather than likeness. Each piece represents a chapter of my healing journey — navigating loss\, divorce\, and rebirth. After the sudden loss of my father\, I turned to painting as a way to process the overwhelming grief that followed. My oil on canvas Underneath represents that experience\, portraying myself in contemplation of death\, grief\, and the cyclical nature of existence and reincarnation.  \nWhen I went through a divorce in 2020\, I once again turned inward\, using art to process heartache\, loss\, and newfound freedom. In Organs\, a nude female figure removes her lungs\, tongue\, and brain — symbols of suffocation\, silence\, and overthinking — yet keeps her heart intact\, a quiet act of resilience and hope. Wrapped in a vine of white flowers\, she slowly unravels herself from the binds that once held her.  \nIn Wallflower\, another self-portrait\, I explore the feeling of invisibility and the process of re-emergence. The figure stitches her own heart back together with needle and thread as she begins to separate herself from the wallpaper that once concealed her\, symbolizing self-recovery and rediscovery.  \nPoppy Heart may appear as a heart blooming with delicate flowers\, but the poppy carries deeper meaning — beauty intertwined with danger\, addiction\, and loss. This piece is a tribute to loved ones lost to addiction\, and to the complex love that remains for those still fighting it. To honor their memory\, 20% of the proceeds from Poppy Heart will be donated to Not One More Alabama\, a nonprofit that provides education\, hope\, and compassionate support to families affected by addiction.  \nMy art comes directly from the heart. It is born from grief but rooted in resilience — a visual testament to the strength of the human spirit and the healing power of creation. \n  \nAbout the artist: \nBeth McKay is a multidisciplinary artist based in Huntsville\, Alabama\, where she has lived most of her life. With over 25 years of experience\, Beth has honed her skills in oil painting\, watercolor\, and screen printing\, crafting deeply personal and evocative works. A graduate of the University of Montevallo (2002) with a concentration in painting and a minor in graphic design\, Beth further pursued her passion for art education at the University of Alabama in Huntsville\, earning a degree in Art Education in 2016 to foster the love of art in young minds.  \nAs a member of the Alabama Women’s Caucus for Art (ALWCA)\, Beth has been an active voice in the regional art community. Her studio is located at Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment\, where she continues to create and experiment. Her work is often inspired by the legendary Frida Kahlo\, with Beth herself serving as the main subject of her pieces. Through self-portraiture\, Beth explores themes of identity\, vulnerability\, depression and the female experience.  \nBeth’s recent works have been showcased in numerous exhibitions\, including the Curated Gallery show No Place Like Home (August-October 2025) and The Feminine—Body\, Mind\, and Spirit at Alabama A&M University in 2025. Her painting “Organs” was featured in The Feminine I ALWCA Art Show at Alabama A&M. In 2023\, her paintings “Poppy Heart” and “Cage” were displayed in the Juried Art Teachers’ Biennial Exhibition at the Huntsville Museum of Art.  \nBeth has also contributed to public art projects\, including Time for aRt EVOLUTION\, a collaborative public art display in downtown Huntsville in 2020. They become stories of our life experiences\, memories of past travels\,  and they document loved ones we once knew.  \nLeigh Ann is wanting viewers to reflect on how we often use photographs to build  memories and stories to share with others. It is through photo collage\, traditional matte  and frame and her classic approach to photography with vintage film cameras that she  wants others to feel they have stepped into another era of photography.  \nHer use of black and white film helps to create a nostalgic and reminiscent approach of  today’s modern world we live in. The images are a continuation of what was and what is and how our memory connects the past to the present.  \n  \nAbout the artist: \nLeigh Ann Edmonds is a documentary photographer from Birmingham\, Alabama. Her work  predominantly explores the land\, culture and people of the American South and is often  described as timeless\, gritty and soulful. Leigh Ann is the 2025 recipient for the Gay Burke Memorial Fellowship from the Alabama State Council on the Arts. She studied under the late Gay Burke at UA and obtained a BA in  Studio Art from the University of Alabama in 2004 with a concentration in photography.  \nLeigh Ann believes that her work is a journal of her life\, the people she meets and the  places she explores and hopes to document in a way that helps to commemorate and  preserve the era in which she lives.

Witness how each artwork\, enriched by Hispanic\, Indigenous\, and African influences\, reflects a community that has transformed adversity into resilience and hope.\nAbout the artist:\nAlejandra González Díaz (b. In 2023\, her paintings “Poppy Heart” and “Cage” were displayed in the Juried Art Teachers’ Biennial Exhibition at the Huntsville Museum of Art.  \nBeth has also contributed to public art projects\, including Time for aRt EVOLUTION\, a collaborative public art display in downtown Huntsville in 2020. Her creative journey has earned her several accolades\, including second place for Mechanical Owl at the UAH Graphic Design Art Show and an Honorable Mention for Underneath at the UAH Juried Art Show in 2017.  \nThrough her work\, Beth McKay continues to challenge the boundaries of self-expression and create art that speaks to both personal and universal experiences. \n

DESCRIPTION:Please join us in the North Floor Gallery for an exciting event in conjunction with the outsider art exhibition “Anything Can Be Redeemed” by Jim White\, accompanied by an artist talk about the work\,  spoken word reading from his latest book and acoustic musical performance in the gallery space.  This will be a wonderful experience you won’t want to miss out on! \n  \nAbout the artist: \nJim White’s a restless soul operating in a variety of artistic mediums. First discovered by David Byrne\, White’s quirky musical output spans a 30 year stretch\, garnering him critical darling status along the way. \nHis iconic duet with Aimee Mann on the song Static on the Radio appeared in the closing credits of the film El Camino\, while his Primus-esque romp Wordmule was featured in the pivotal Heisenger Episode of the  Breaking Bad TV series. \nWhite’s a published author as well. His debut novel\, Incidental Contact was described by Mojo Magazine as “unputdownable”. Skirmishes With the Lord\, his follow up publication\, is a collection of humorous essays detailing the making of the award winning BBC 4 documentary Searching for the Wrong-Eyed Jesus\, which White starred in. \nHis visual art has been displayed both nationally and internationally\, including shows at The Douglas Hyde Gallery in Dublin Ireland\, Aarhus Festuge in Aarhus Denmark\, the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art\, in Winston-Salem and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans. \nHis visual art output primarily centers around found object three dimensional assemblage constructions\, constituent parts culled from dumpsters\, flea markets and thrift stores around the US South. \nWhite’s themes\, be they in song\, written form or visual art\, primarily focus on the contradictions presented by life in the US South\, focusing in particular on southern religion and cultural institutions. \nWhite is the father of two grown daughters\, the eldest being rising country music star Willow Avalon.

Come out\, enjoy a pleasant evening\, and maybe you’ll find that special piece of art that speaks to you!  The Open Studio Night reception is Saturday\, November 22 from 5-7 pm. \n  \nAbout the exhibit: \nJohn Simmons is a collage artist born and raised in Jacksonville\, AL. Years of experimenting with old magazines\, found ephemera\, and personal mark-making led him to discover that the simple act of cutting\, tearing\, and reassembling was a form of personal alchemy. Each piece is born from a spontaneous gesture rather than a preconceived concept. \nHis work is rooted in catharsis through process. He enjoys taking bits and pieces of contrasting shapes\, textures\, and colors to create a wholly new identity. The studio becomes a zone of release\, where time collapses and decisions are made in the moment. His compositions emerge organically as he follows intuition—no underlying narrative guides the hand. The resulting collages are traces of an emotional state\, snapshots of creative necessity rather than coded symbols demanding interpretation. \nOften asked if his works contain hidden metaphors\, John insists that the art rarely carries a deeper meaning beyond the joy and urgency of creation. By stripping away intentional symbolism\, John invites viewers to experience the pure dynamism of collage\, allowing them to create their own interpretations. He views his work as an unfiltered act of creation\, a ritual of renewal. \n  \nAbout the artist: \nJohn Simmons was born and raised in Jacksonville\, AL\, and graduated from Jax State University with a BFA in Graphic Design. He received 2 silver Addy’s and 1 Gold Addy for work created as an undergraduate. He has also completed the print campaign and presented work in two different gallery showcases (Leylines – National Juried Drawing Competition\, Paint Rock – Drawing Knowledge from Nature). His call to create is centered around sharing his true thoughts and feelings while striving to understand and relate to others. \nHe has a keen sense of design and its relation to form and function. His mixed media approach focuses on juxtaposition and attention to detail. His body of work displays a true purgative release of thoughtful energy that is both powerful and refined. Working to invite divergent perspectives\, his work bears witness to a melting pot of ideas and the various ways we perceive those ideas.

Yet\, still\, I feel as if I am opening my heart  and allowing everyone to view my soul.  \nThe Art is Me. I took a DNA test and discovered my ancestry is African\, Native American\,  French\, Welsh\, German\, and Swiss. This revelation made me compassionate for the  traumatic journey that begets my diverse and complex heritage.  \nI illustrate raw emotions conveyed through body language. Emotions are universal. They  transcend cultural boundaries and connect us all. As an artist\, I aspire to motivate others  to embrace their unique heritage while fostering a connection to humanity through our  shared emotional experiences.  \nArt is like looking into a mirror. So\, though I paint through the gaze of a black woman  – when my art resonates with your soul\, the art becomes a reflection of you. And  because of the emotional connection\, you can look at my art and honestly say\, The Art is Me! \n  \nAbout the artist: \nLaShonda Scott Robinson is a self-taught watercolor artist who calls Tuscaloosa\, AL  home.  \nLaShonda captures deep\, often unspoken emotions through body language. She chooses  not to paint faces\, believing that while our expressions might hide our feelings\, our bodies  always reveal our true selves.  \nHer art has been featured in Momentum National MS Society Magazine\, Design for  Dyslexia 2024 Show House in Tuscaloosa\, AL\, a feature on Tabitha Brown’s Very Good  Mondays\, Tina Knowles (The mother of Beyoncé) WACO Theater Wearable Art Gala\,  Judge Mathis E! Come out\, enjoy a pleasant evening\, and maybe you’ll find that special piece of art that speaks to you!  The Open Studio Night reception is Saturday\, November 22 from 5-7 pm. \n  \nAbout the Exhibit: \nFor over a decade\, Monica Yother has painted dance figures that focus on movement\, emotion\, strength\, and grace- capturing the dance itself rather than the dancer. In this new body of work\, however\, she shifts her gaze beyond the performance to the performer. On stage\, the dancer often becomes nearly transparent-what we witness on stage is the story and the character brought to life through choreography and costume\, rather than the individual behind it. Yother is intrigued by the concept of “the transparent dancer\,” aiming to reveal a glimpse of the person beneath the performance. \nRather than present the dancers on a stage with wooden floor and fabric curtains\, she chose to suggest the world that the dancer’s character might inhabit. Instead of a heavy curtain that hides the scene from the audience\, we see semi-transparent fabric that flows behind and in some cases in front of the figure\, to suggest the transparency of the dancer. \nIt is the intention of this selection of works to look at ballet through a different lens\, and observe dancers caught between movement\, between notes. \n  \nAbout the Artist: \nMonica Yother is primarily an oil painter\, focusing on dance figures\, though she does enjoy painting animals and birds. Since 2008 she has been the resident artist for Huntsville Ballet\, creating art work for the organization that has become the brand. She is currently working on an MFA with a concentration in painting and drawing. Monica lives in Huntsville\, Alabama and has a studio where she teaches classes and workshops. \n

These motions inspire and evoke the physical movement of paint on canvas that becomes a panacea in color\, shape and texture.  \n  \nAbout the artist: \nAs a young man\, Robby chose the Culinary Arts as his life work. In 2020\, after stepping away from Chef life\, Robby began transitioning his creative energy into a different kind of art. Plates shifted to canvases; layers of color and texture replaced the aromas of food; and new ways to process life’s experiences were born. Art has always chosen Robby\, whether in the kitchen or in the studio\, and while the forms may be different\, the results are the same. \n

The activities night became a political discourse with the community members attending. Nights have been spent making protest poster for rallies and letting people voice their views through art. Pieces in this show came from group efforts. Promoting mutual aide fundraisers. Using words mixed with visual images to spread awareness for social injustices. Even voicing that our community did not want someone who so happy for genocide performing in our area and sharing the art to help promote canceling their performance. \nArt can make a difference\nIt can move\nIt can heal\nUse your expressive ways to change things\nDo it.\n  \nAbout the artist: \nGregory Price\n*gory price\n*rogue atom\nT shirt aficionado\nDaily doodler\nAging punk rocker\nPoor and unknown\nLoving life\nAs a mountain side dweller\nNear Birmingham\nWith my cooler than me kid\n	Notice to Visitors\nArt is vastly different and can be edgy in both form and content. Come out\, enjoy a pleasant evening\, and maybe you’ll find that special piece of art that speaks to you!  The Open Studio Night reception is Saturday\, November 22 from 5-7 pm. \n  \nAbout the exhibit: \nSome years back I shipped a show of my assemblage makings over to Dublin\, Ireland to appear in this high dollar art gallery on the grounds of Trinity College. \nOn the customs form the powers that be asked for a detailed breakdown of what I was shipping\, so I just wrote ‘garbage’. \nSee\, when I was a kid I got yelled at a lot for digging through other people’s garbage piles. Some said it was unsanitary\, others undignified. I didn’t much care what they thought\, as certain items in said garbage piles spoke to me\, asking to be liberated from their ignominious fate. \nOf course\, they got a pejorative term for people who dig in garbage piles\, dragging home mountains of worthless\, discarded objects-they call those folks ‘hoarders’. There’s popular intervention shows on TV that follow the sad lifestyles of such individuals. I watched a few episodes and winced from time to time. \nDespite certain superficial similarities\, I surmised that I’m definitely not a hoarder. Why? Because it’s not hoarding if you put what you find to use-which I do. Approaching it that way\, you’re not some sick-o digging in filthy garbage piles\, you’re just a low income artist out there collecting free art supplies.  \nAnd after three or four decades of gathering up quite the mountain of such free art supplies\, I find myself in possession of a truly magnificent stash of unwanted American esoterica. And from time to time when I do dare venture into certain wildly overcrowded rooms here in this old farm house where I live\, said items of esoterica\, they start calling out\, like sirens luring me nearer the rocks of creativity.   \nNext thing I know I got a bottle of wood glue in one hand and a C-clamp in the other. Paint brushes are brandished willy-nilly as visual connections are hastily forged. It’s a form of low brow magic.   \nI never set out with any vision or plan-I’m not the slightest bit conceptually minded. There is no deep message intended by this work\, with the exception of the notion that given the right circumstances\, anything\, living or not\, can be redeemed. \nSo far as I can tell\, I was put here on this earth to manifest those circumstances.  And so I do. \n  \nAbout the artist: \nThere’s no conventional marketplace category that even remotely describes what I do\, unless consummate outsider could be considered a commercial genre.  \nFor the last thirty years I’ve split my time and creative vision between working as a musician (eight studio albums\, five side projects)\, a visual artist (exhibitions both nationally and internationally) and a writer (2 books\, 1 Pushcart Prize for short fiction). \nAt the unlikely age of thirty eight I was “discovered”\, then championed by David Byrne\, of Talking Heads fame. Prior to that I worked in obscurity\, so it was a big paradigm shift. \nSongs of mine have been featured in film and TV\, including prime slots in the Breaking Bad franchise.
